历史 埃克塞特虽不是英格兰西部最大的城市,但却是十分重要的城市,同时也是一个历史古城.埃克塞特悠久的历史可追溯到距今已有近两千年的罗马时代(约公元50年).那时的埃克塞特是英格兰非常重要的城市,有发达的羊毛、布料贸易,但工业革命后,很多城市的发展都超过了她.近年来,埃克塞特重新崛起,在发展经济的同时仍然保留了其独特的历史魅力.埃克塞特并不大,仅有11.7万人口,但也正是由于小,居民们彼此间关系更加亲近,合作也更为紧密.

History Exeter is not the biggest but is the most important and historic city in the West of England. Its origins go back to Roman times with the first occupation of the site being around 50AD. Since then there has been continuous occupation and for many centuries Exeter was one of the leading cities in England, with a very rich and successful trade in wool and cloth. The industrial revolution caused many other places to outgrow and overtake Exeter, but recently it has experienced a considerable resurgence while still preserving much of its historic characteristics and charm.
