固执：人性的反抗

席勒以为暴力是一种毁灭人性的力量，人性与暴力不相容，卡夫卡在他的小说《在流放地》指出，极权加技术使人丧失人性。纳粹集中营和卡夫卡笔下的流放地，有惊人的相似之处。但是，在凯尔泰斯小说《无命运的人生》中，集中营里的囚犯却没有丧失人性，他们用各种类型的“固执”，使自己作为人活下去。“固执”是他们对集中营的一种反抗，反抗暴力对人和人性的摧残，同时也证明他们是人，并具有人性。人性不是那么容易被摧毁的，这是小说想表达的一个思想。

Tenacity:Resistance of Humanity

Schiller argues that violence is a power to destroy humanity.Humanity and violence are inconsistent;as Kafka pointed out in his short story In the Penal Colony(In der Strafkolonie),totalitarianism and machine leads to the destruction of humanity.The Nazi concentration camp and Kafka's penal colony bears a striking resemblance.However for Tolstoy,the prisoners in the concentration camp did not lose their humanity,instead,they strived to live their lives through all forms of 'tenacity'.Tenacity is their resistance against the concentration camp.It resists against the torture of humanity by violence,and meanwhile one of the most significant themes in the short story is that even if they are under harsh conditions,humanity would not fade away that easily.
