Illegal Cooking Oil Scandal

It is no kidding but hard fact that every one out of ten meals is cooked with illegal cooking oil, which once again has caused widespread anxiety over food security in China. Made from gutter oil and swill-cooked oil through filtering, heating, precipitation, and extraction, the illegal cooking oil is mainly composed of triglyceride, and contains various poisonous substances that may cause cancer and other diseases. Eventually, the oil returns to the table after being sold to the restaurants with low price. The Ministry of Public Security has recently cracked down on a criminal chain which processes and sells illegal cooking oil in Zhejiang, Shandong and Henan provinces. The move unveils the mysterious fact about illegal cooking oil and the illegal industry chain of collection, production, extraction, deep-processing, wholesale and retail is exposed in public. A teleconference has been held jointly by the Food Security Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Public Security as well as other authorities intended to check illegal cooking oil crimes throughout the country.
