Stock and flow sampling

This letter is concerned with the joint distribution of variables that effect the duration of stay in a given state, for example, unemployment. It deals with the difference in the joint distribution between the population of residents of the state—the stock—and the population of entrants or leavers—the flow, and with the implications of this difference for econometric inferences.
