Abstract: | Gender differences in the labor market have attracted significant attention from economists, who focus on gender differences not only in wages but also in promotions. However, the research on gender differences in promotions within the internal labor market is scant, especially in China. By taking advantage of rare personnel administration data from a large firm in China, this paper explores different aspects of the gender promotion gap, and then further discusses the contribution of several individual and organizational variables in accounting for gender differences in each aspect of promotions. |
