Financing of College Education by Minority and White Families
Authors:CHARLOTTE V CHURAMAN
Abstract:Characteristics of students, their families, and their college enrollment were compared for Native Americans, Asians, blacks, Hispanics, and whites, using data from the 1987 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study. Analysis of the factors explaining the differences in parental contributions accounted for 21 percent of the variance and showed minority or white status to be a significant predictor after controlling for differences in schools, family types, financial aid, and student contribution to their expenses.
