Abstract:While the management discipline has been widely recognized as a culture, it is more instructive to view this culture as part of a larger system, to view it in fact as an integral part of—and an effective agent in—the process of human cultural evolution. This article argues that every management task and decision is influenced by—and in turn influences—the cultural environment and its evolution. Decision making in social organizations, mediated by the available ‘cultural pool’, is shaping our future on every level.
