The Role of Credit in the Theory of the Household
Authors:JAMES B HERENDEEN
Abstract:Consumer credit has been neglected in the economic theory of the household. This article examines the role and impacts of credit on household utility, investment, savings and consumption choices. Household consumption-investment models are developed based on the works of Fisher, Lancaster and Becker. Implications are developed for consumer credit use, credit policy and consumer lending institutions.
