With the development of globalization and industry transformation, professional service firms （PSFs）, whose main business is to provide professional knowledge service products,have been developing quickly. The development of the western professional service firms is in the global leading position,and expands rapidly into the global market. The research on profes-sional service firms in the western academic circles has formed a certain degree of accumulation. Therefore, it is necessary to review foreign studies related to the connotation and characteristics of professional service firms, sort out its development pro-cess and differentiates and analyzes its organizational boundaries, so as to provide academic guidance for the research of Chi-na’s professional service firms.
