Abstract: | The purpose of the study was to examine the factors that influence preretirees' community and residential preferences during retirement. The data were obtained from a mail survey in which the housing and locational retirement decisions of pre-retirees in four states were investigated. Path analysis results indicated that respondents who were Hearing retirement had already moved to a suitable home and were currently in age-mixed communities, and in close proximity to their children. This has implications for community and housing developers, gerontologists, and public policy makers to create a suitable environment for the elderly to age ‘in place’, and to provide them with adequate housing and community services. |
