Let dams make more contribution

The international conference Hydropower 2004, sponsored by China Three Gorges Project Corporation, Hubei Qingjiang Hydroelectric Development Co. Ltd, China Society for Hydroelectric Engineering and Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, was held on the Three Gorges project site on May 24-26, 2004. More than 300 hydroelectric experts from over 20 countries in the world attended this conference. The dams have played enormous role in the development of human society. The ICOLD has committed itself to publicize and promulgate the dam building technology in the developing countries. Part of speeches and talk from Mr. C. B. Viotti, chairman of ICOLD, and Mr. Andre Bergeret, secretary-general of ICOLD, at this conference, answered the problem how to deal with environmental and ecological issues in construction of hydropower projects
