Competition Degree Measurement and Structure Analysis of Chinese Property Insurance Market

It’s not enough to examine the competition structure of the insurance industry objectively from only the perspective of market concentration.The paper modified the Bresnahan model based on market equilibrium to make use of more information to analyze China′s property insurance market.Assuming that property insurance companies seeking maximization of their profit,the paper used the data of China′s property insurance companies from 2002 to 2009 to estimate various parameters of the model,and then analyzed the competition situation of the property insurance market.The research revealed that China′s property insurance market was highly concentrated and highly competitive,and that the level of competition before and after 2005 was very different,moreover,the high marginal cost also indicated the existence of acute price competition.Finally,the paper put forward three points of suggestions on service and product innovation,optimum premium scale,and strengthening the early warning system.
