An application of goal programming to the desegregration busing problem

Abstract:
This paper develops a goal programming model for obtaining solutions to the desegregation busing problem. The model is compared with the linear programming approach and is applied to 31 schools serving over 14,000 students. Solutions result in potential cost savings of over one-half million dollars.
