Abstract:For decades the conventional wisdom maintained that 'public' (a euphemism for government) expenditure was good for economic life Professors Datta and Gordon, of the Universities of Visra-Bhariti (West Bengal) and Southern California, claim that evidence from the Third World suggests how government retards economic growth and depresses living standards Their argument may be technical but their conclusions cannot be misinterpreted even by politicians
