Abstract: | This study examines racial variations in post-layoff earnings among a cohort of workers displaced in 1985 from Silicon Valley's high-technology industries. The analysis shows that blacks and Hispanics suffered greater earnings losses than non-Hispanic whites, and that this racial disparity occurred both among those who found other jobs within the high-tech sector and among those who were reemployed outside the high-tech sector. There were no statistical differences in outcomes between Asians and non-Hispanic whites. |
