Abstract: | A bstract . In 1967 and 1968, the United States Department of Defense instituted a program of "Nondiscriminatory Housing for Military Personnel." Data gathered in this program offer a unique opportunity to examine interactions between the armed forces and society in the housing market. The key factor explaining variations in the relative success of this program in different areas of the country appears to have been the importance of the military to the local economy. |
