天安门广场东侧，国家博物馆北广场，一尊雕像巍然矗立。这是一座青铜孔子像，高达9．5米，重约17吨，以孔子站姿为造型，面部温和睿智，长髯垂胸，衣袂飘飞，双手合于胸前，目视远方。雕像身体部分以简朴、概括的手法，将人体的结构融入自然的山石形态当中，古朴雄浑，气势磅礴。就是这样一尊雕塑，引来无数热议，还有质疑和批判。为什么是孔子站在这里？

Lu Zhangshen, Curator of the National Museum of China is quotedas explaining that Confucius is aworldwide acknowledged cultural giant like Socrates, Jesus and Sakyamuni as well as the representative of Chinese culture. Therefore, on the occasion of the completion of the extension of the National Museum of China, the statue of Confucius was erected at the National Museum.
