Abstract:This article introduces the special issue which provides a timely and comprehensive overview of advances in banking research. First we highlight some of the major developments in banking since the global financial crisis noting the changed operational and regulatory environment, industry reform and the greater emphasis on risk measurement and management. We then go on to outline the contributions contained in the special issue all of which add to the debate on the implications of significant industry reforms in the banking and financial services sector.
