Abstract: | The developing discipline of the economics of politics examines the behaviour of bureaucrats and politicians as maximisers of self-interest like anybody else. The insights derived from this analysis can be applied to other forms of governmental activity, not least in the Bank of England. Rosalind Levačić assesses the extent to which the Bank's officials maximise their own well-being instead of implementing Government policy. |
