The output could not meet the consumption demand, so vast quantities of styrene had to be imported every year. It is forecasted that the total consumption of styrene in China will reach about 4,380kt/a in 2005, and 5,600kt/a in 2010. Styrene has a bright development prospect in China, so it is proposed to expand production capacity of styrene plants with advanced technologies to essentially relieve the contradiction between styrene supply and demand in China.
