嘉兴海盐张氏家族藏书源流考

嘉兴海盐张氏家族藏书逾十代,在我国私家藏书史上实属凤毛麟角。张氏藏书由张元济九世祖张惟赤始创;后经过张氏历代努力,到嘉乾之际张元济六世祖张宗松一辈时达到鼎盛;道光后期因种种原因,张氏家族藏书中落,持续了200多年的藏书陆续散出;太平天国时又遭兵戮,涉园名胜遂荒废;至近代张元济时,继承先世之志,涉园传统重放光华,纷呈异彩。张氏藏书历经百数十年世代相承,且著称者颇多;涉园、清琦斋、研古楼、守白斋等藏书甚丰,颇多善本;考其藏书源流可管窥先贤对珍贵典籍保护、刊刻、传播活动,以及对传承传统文献所作出的杰出贡献。

Origin and Development Research on Zhang Familys Book Collection in Haiyan of Jiaxing

Zhang Family has collected books for over 10 generations in Haiyan of Jiaxing and it is rare and precious in the history of private book collection in China.Zhang Family’s book collection was created by Zhang Weichi who was Zhang Yuanji’s ancestor from the first generation.Afterwards,Zhang family made great efforts generation by generation and it achieved its heyday in Jiaqing and Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty when Zhang Yuanji’s ancestor called Zhang Zongsong from the fourth generation was alive.However,due to many causes in later Daoguang Period of Qing Dynasty,Zhang Family’s book collection had to ebb and the books which sustained to be stored up more than 200 years had to be dispersed one after another.Furthermore,in the period of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom,their houses called Sheyuan Garden was invaded and fallen into disuse.Until recent time,Zhang Yuanji inherited his forefathers’ aspiration and revived the Sheyuan Garden tradition.Zhang Family’s book collection goes through hundreds of years’ passing on from generation to generation,with many famous ones.Sheyuan Garden,Qingqizhai Hall,Yangulou Tower and Shoubaizhai Hall collected abundant books and had many rare editions.Researching the origin and development of the book collection will help to reveal the ancestral sages’ activities of protecting,printing and spreading the precious books & records and their outstanding contribution for inheriting traditional literature.
