X-de Phrases: Structural Components,Semantic Function and Stylistic Flavor

Starting from their structural components,this paper analyzes the X-de phrases in terms of such aspects as the referential scope,semantic roles,and the extent of lexicalization,and then moves on to the causes for their restriction in make-up and transferred designation before it finally probes into the pragmatic function and stylistic characteristics of X-de phrases.It depends on both cognitive and pragmatic factors whether an X-de phrase is acceptable,while the realization of its referential function results chiefly from metonymic operation based on identifiability or the principle of salience.
