Economic Advantages of Ultra-high Voltage AC Power Transmission

Technical economy evaluation is adopted to analyze the economic characteristics of Ultra-high Voltage (UHV) AC power transmission.The specific calculations are made with regard to UHV grid and UHV AC demonstration project respectively,followed by social benefits evaluation.According to the calculations,the electricity transmission through UHV grid is economically superior to the electricity generation at the demand centers with coal transmitted by railway.Compared with 500 kV AC power transmission,UHV AC power transmission has significant advantages in long-distance,large-capacity power delivery,i.e.lower costs and less loss.The UHV AC demonstration project also shows financial viability and adaptability,along with considerable market competitiveness.In presence of a certain UHV grid scale,both social and economic benefits can be achieved.
