Wealth-path dependent utility maximization in incomplete markets   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Motivated by an optimal investment problem under time horizon uncertainty and when default may occur, we study a general structure for an incomplete semimartingale model extending the classical terminal wealth utility maximization problem. This modelling leads to the formulation of a wealth-path dependent utility maximization problem. Our main result is an extension of the well-known dual formulation to this context. In contrast with the usual duality approach, we work directly on the primal problem. This paper examines whether sentiment can be considered a priced source of risk on international financial markets. We investigate whether residual sentiment is rewarded with a risk premium if added to a model with macroeconomic fundamentals and analyze the time-variation of the respective risk premia. The analysis is performed in the framework of a conditional multiple-beta pricing model and focusses on the excess returns of the G7 stock markets in the period from February 1999 to February 2012. The obtained results indicate that sentiment indeed earns a significant risk premium of around 2% p.a. on the considered markets.  相似文献

In this paper the neutral valuation approach is applied to American and game options in incomplete markets. Neutral prices occur if investors are utility maximizers and if derivative supply and demand are balanced. Game contingent claims are derivative contracts that can be terminated by both counterparties at any time before expiration. They generalize American options where this right is limited to the buyer of the claim. It turns out that as in the complete case, the price process of American and game contingent claims corresponds to a Snell envelope or to the value of a Dynkin game, respectively.On the technical level, an important role is played by -sub- and -supermartingales. We provide a concise exposition of theoretical results that appear in modeling default time as a random time, we study in details the invariance martingale property and we establish a representation theorem which leads, in a complete market setting, to the hedging portfolio of a vulnerable claim. This paper provide a large-deviations approximation of the tail distribution of total financial losses on a portfolio consisting of many positions. Applications include the total default losses on a bank portfolio, or the total claims against an insurer. The results may be useful in allocating exposure limits, and in allocating risk capital across different lines of business. Assuming that, for a given total loss, the distress caused by the loss is larger if the loss occurs within a smaller time period, we provide a large-deviations estimate of the likelihood that there will exist a sub-period of the future planning period during which a total loss of the critical severity occurs. The minimal distance equivalent martingale measure (EMM) defined in Goll and Rüschendorf (2001) is the arbitrage-free equilibrium pricing measure. This paper provides an algorithm to approximate its density and the fair price of any contingent claim in an incomplete market. We first approximate the infinite dimensional space of all EMMs by a finite dimensional manifold of EMMs. A Riemannian geometric structure is shown on the manifold. An optimization algorithm on the Riemannian manifold becomes the approximation pricing algorithm. This paper studies the valuation of American options in the presence of external/non-hedgeable event risk. When the event occurs, the American option is terminated and a rebate is paid instead of the promised pay-off profile. Consequently, the presence of event risk influences the exercise strategy of the option holder. For the financial market in a diffusion setting, the probabilistic structure in terms of equivalent martingale measures is briefly analysed. Then, for a given equivalent martingale measure the optimal stopping problem of the American option is solved. We investigate some portfolio problems that consist of maximizing expected terminal wealth under the constraint of an upper bound for the risk, where we measure risk by the variance, but also by the Capital-at-Risk (CaR). The solution of the mean-variance problem has the same structure for any price process which follows an exponential Lévy process. The CaR involves a quantile of the corresponding wealth process of the portfolio. We derive a weak limit law for its approximation by a simpler Lévy process, often the sum of a drift term, a Brownian motion and a compound Poisson process. Speculators who prey on hedgers can stifle financial innovation in the sense that new markets can fail. In this paper I analyze whether a profit maximizing exchange nonetheless chooses to open markets for speculative securities and if so, how to circumvent the problem of market failure. I find that the optimal financial innovation takes two forms. The first is a market structure consisting of hedge instruments, traded in low volume at stable asset prices. The second is a market structure consisting of speculative instruments, traded in greater volume at volatile asset prices. These strategies are derived within the same framework where the cost and the quality of the speculators' information set and the hedgers risk aversion ultimately determine which is the optimal one.  相似文献

Classical theories of financial markets assume an infinitely liquid market and that all traders act as price takers. This theory is a good approximation for highly liquid stocks, although even there it does not apply well for large traders or for modelling transaction costs. We extend the classical approach by formulating a new model that takes into account illiquidities. Our approach hypothesizes a stochastic supply curve for a securitys price as a function of trade size. The objective of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of financial markets and financial intermediaries in financing new industries and technologies in the presence of diversity of opinion. In markets, investors become informed about the details of the new industry or technology and make their own investment decisions. In intermediaries, the investment decision is delegated to a manager, who is the only one who needs to become informed, which saves on information costs, but investors may anticipate disagreement with the manager and be unwilling to provide funds.
