Love or hate? Hotels' gay-friendliness and their intention to maintain or diminish the hotel digital service relationship with OTAs

This study offers the first analysis of hotel managers' intentions to maintain or diminish a service business relationship with Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) based on an empirical assessment of transaction-specific variables, socio-relational variables and values-related variables (namely, gay-friendliness). Based on 206 questionnaires administered to EU-based hotels, the study suggests that a hotel's intention to maintain seems to be impacted by both the economic dimension and the hotel's self-perceived gay-friendliness. The intention to diminish follows a different path, being mainly motivated by opportunistic and transaction-specific characteristics of the service. Our results suggest that hotels geared toward the LGBT travel market can benefit from being listed on OTAs without suffering brand image drawbacks. Moreover, like is already common in the CSR realm, OTAs should allow hotels to include LGBT-related information and explicitly expand their search engines to target gay-friendly hospitality.

Industrial Relations in Hotels and Catering: Neglect and Paradox?

Given that hotels and catering comprise an important part of the service sector representing the changing face of the economy, their neglect in industrial relations discourse about the 'new' industrial relations is no longer sustainable. Previously unpublished data from the Workplace Industrial Relations Survey 1990 (WIRS3) have provided the first opportunity for systematic analysis and evaluation of employment relationship issues in the industry and finds them to be different from those observed elsewhere in the economy. Consequently, hotels and catering can be said to manifest a predominance of 'unbridled individualism' associated with 'poor' industrial relations outcomes which, paradoxically, exist alongside an above average presence of personnel specialists.

驻厂监造是采购质量控制的重要一环,属于设备监理的范畴。通过分析石油管材监造服务的特点和发展现状,指出加强监造服务管理是一项重要工作。站在委托方(业主)的角度,就监造服务管理制度的建立、监造单位的选择、监造合同的签订、监造过程的监督以及项目完工后监造服务质量的评价等方面,阐述了监造服务质量管理的要点,提出了管理措施和建议。     

The Value of Going Green in the Hotel Industry: Evidence from Beijing

Based on several unique datasets in Beijing, this article investigates the value of going green in the hotel industry by combining the traditional hedonic pricing model with the state‐of‐the‐art content analysis of online reviews. The results indicate that the rate of complaints about the indoor environmental quality of green hotels is roughly 19% lower than that for nongreen hotels. Hedonic regression analysis concludes that green hotels enjoy a significant room rate premium of 6.5% without reducing occupancy rates, mainly due to improved indoor environmental quality. Recognizing the presence of such cobenefits is likely to induce hoteliers to embrace green practices.     

Human Resource Management and Performance in the UK Hotel Industry

This article examines the relationship between human resource management and performance in the UK hotel industry. Using data from over 200 hotels, the results demonstrate, first, that the relationship between HRM and performance is dependent upon the business strategy the hotel is pursuing; second, that hotels pursuing an HRM approach coupled with a quality focus within their business strategy perform best; and, finally, that HRM is more likely to contribute to competitive success where it is introduced as an integrated and coherent package, or bundle of practices.

Industry Structure,Segmentation, and Quality Competition in the U.S. Hotel Industry*

We examine how quality competition affects the relationship between market size and industry structure at the product level using evidence from the U.S. hotel industry. Starting in the early 1980s, quality competition for business travelers became more based on variable and less on fixed costs, and became less scale intensive. Since then, market size increases have been met by more, but smaller, hotels in business travel destinations but continued to be met by larger hotels in personal travel destinations. Our results illustrate how the way consumers benefit from increases in market size depends on how firms compete.
