An integrated location,production, distribution and investment model for a multinational corporation

We present a mixed integer linear formulation that extends published models on multinational corporation facility location decisions by including exogenous variables such as exchange rates and tariff rates and incorporating production, distribution, and investment decisions. The model provides insights on production levels; facility configurations, distribution strategies and levels of investment needed at these facilities and explores factors that influence the facility's configuration decisions. Several scenarios are considered based on various facility configurations and levels of exchange and tariff rates. The results obtained from these show that the model's performance and results are in complete agreement with accepted economic theories.

农村基础设施投资贡献度研究,是合理确定农村基础设施投资顺序的依据,是优化资源配置的基础,是加快新农村建设步伐的必要条件。基于运用永续盘存法(PIM)测算的1990~2007年间农村道路、自来水设施和电力设施资本存量,运用Eviews 5.0统计分析软件,从影响农民收入、农民支出和农村经济三个维度出发,构建生产函数模型,科学测算各项基础设施的投资贡献度;在此基础上,提出相应政策建议。     

VERTICAL INTEGRATION AND SHARED FACILITIES IN UNREGULATED INDUSTRIES

In this paper we analyze the equilibrium market structure, following liberalization, of an industry involving an essential facility. Two alternative modes of market entry are considered, in conjunction with vertical integration, namely: (i) full entry, which means building a new and more efficient facility at a positive fixed cost; and (ii) partial entry, which means purchasing existing capacity from the incumbent, at a fixed price per unit that is freely negotiated between the incumbent and the entrant. We show that vertical integration is a dominant strategy for each firm under either entry mode, and that upstream firms choose to share the incumbent's facility when the entrant's fixed cost exceeds a positive threshold. In addition, welfare analysis shows that in many situations the market can efficiently solve the trade-off between fixed-cost savings and softened downstream competition, thus providing a rationale for the liberalization of such industries. Several competition policy implications are discussed.

This article considers the desirability and feasibility of an international food financing facility along the lines of existing lending facilities administered by the IMF and under the IMF's auspices. A prominent proposal is the extention of The Compensatory Financing Facility. The authors examine this proposal in the context of the nature and magnitude of food insecurity in developing countries. The authors conclude that the establishment of a food facility within the IMF is both desirable and feasible, but that, as suggested by FAO, it should be separate from The Compensatory Financing Facility.

This paper presents a procedure for calculating system and component utilization patterns or load curves which describe the use of a single service facility by several independent agencies. Such load curves are frequently used to allocate cost of the facility among the agencies it serves. The procedure is a computer model that establishes a link between data that are readily obtain ed and data that are required by allocation formulas. The model derives detailed load curves for each agency and for the-total system. A Monte Carlo procedure is suggested in which the model may be used to estimate the sensitivity of allocation formulas to error in the underlying data.

CNG加气站的安全间距与城市安全及土地利用密切相关,为在满足安全要求的前提下降低安全间距,提高土地利用率,对CNG加气站的防火间距进行了研究。基于Chamberlain模型,对CNG加气站内固定储气设施发生燃气泄漏燃烧的热辐射进行数值分析,结合地下抗爆泄压式新型固定储气设施的研究成果,利用Matlab对不同形式的固定储气设施发生燃气泄漏燃烧事故时的热辐射情况做出相应的数值计算。计算结果表明,新型的固定储气设施(技术)可以有效地缩小其防火间距,提高CNG加气站的土地利用率。     

APPLYING MONTE CARLO SIMULATION AND RISK ANALYSIS TO THE FACILITY LOCATION PROBLEM

Facility location problems have become a more strategic decision than just finding the lowest cost space to house a company's product. When choosing the placement of a distribution center, a company must weigh the new freight costs and the cost of a new or leased structure against its necessary service levels, as well as several other factors. Companies can also save on logistics costs in choosing the correct location by incorporating the inherent risk and variability that are involved in a facility location decision. However, in reality, most companies do not analytically consider risk and variability in choosing a location. This article presents a methodology to help determine candidate locations and then conduct a financial risk analysis to determine the ideal location of a new facility.
