This paper examines the price effects of generic drugs that are produced by brand-name drug firms and that are labeled, priced,
and marketed to compete against independent generics. The strategy of introducing such “pseudo-generics” – also known as “authorized
generics” – has raised some antitrust concerns. One defense of this strategy has been that the additional competition created
by pseudo-generics should lead to lower prices. This paper develops a simple model to show that pseudo-generics can be expected
to have exactly the opposite effect. It then examines empirical evidence on this point from the Canadian pharmaceutical market,
showing that there appears to be a positive relationship between drug prices and the share of generic sales made by the brand’s

The present study focuses on the relationship between the acquisition of design knowledge by novice design students and the
quality of their designs. Design learning is typically based on action and reflection. Knowledge of solution processes, being
part of this reflection, is found to be crucial in monitoring and controlling the design process and in reaching an optimal,
creative result. The studies described in this article suggest a close relationship between the amount of process knowledge
– knowledge of managing and monitoring the solution finding process – reported by novice designers, and the creativity of

There is a continuing perception that current educational arrangements for technology education in modern liberal democracies are at odds with its actual delivery in the classroom (Dakers & Doherty 2003). The technè versus poiesis tension (explained later) is one major contributor to this perception. Equally, the practice of transmission versus constructivist pedagogies contributes to the mismatch between policy and practice.This paper will investigate how factors relating to these two contributions affect the delivery of technological education. It will begin by discussing the derivation of the word technology and how its modern incarnation has become not only amorphous, but confusing for technology education, in that the term can be taken to mean production on the one hand or process on the other. It will then explore technology teachers perceptions (and misperceptions) of what constitutes technology education, and discuss why this can lead to confusion. It will further consider how this can affect the pedagogy adopted. It will then examine two pedagogical frameworks which result from teachers perceptions of technology education as either; a process of internalisation of technological skills and functions as representations exclusively within the mind and unique to the individual, thus solo, or; a process of technological skills and functions embedded in sociocultural activity in which cognition is distributed across the internal mind and the external environment. UNICEF states that in 88 countries studied ‘more than 13 million children currently under the age of 15 have lost both parents to Aids, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa’ (UNICEF 2002). The impact of this Aids pandemic cannot be overstated. Indeed the long-term impact of such statistics is scarcely imaginable and has not been experienced in the world to date. Sustainable, indigenous technology may be a way of providing a meaningful educational experience for such marginalised young people. However the concept of sustainable, indigenous technology is not always clearly defined. Whether to do business with rights violating regimes is one of many dilemmas faced by socially responsible corporations. In
this article the difficult case of Myanmar is considered. Ruled for decades by a closed and sometimes brutal military elite,
the country has long been subject to informal and formal sanctions. However, as sanctions have failed to trigger political
reform, it is necessary to review the policy options. The focus here is on the contribution socially responsible corporations
might make to change. The article sketches contextual features of the case, examines the recent history and present pattern
of business links with Myanmar, and assesses whether current approaches can stimulate reform. Concluding that they cannot,
it considers fresh possibilities for corporate engagement. The argument is that socially responsible corporations, committed
to improving individual life chances through engagement with developing societies, should undertake collaborative and principled
direct investment in Myanmar. The underlying strategy and problems of codification and implementation are all analyzed. To
close, the article contends that, by doing business with Myanmar’s rights violating regime, multinational corporations can
extend the frontiers of global corporate social responsibility.

Robin et al. (1996) suggested a new construct when studying ethical behavioral intention which they entitled PIE (perceived importance). They empirically tested the PIE construct and found it to significantly impact both ethical judgment and behavioral intention. The present study extends and validates Robin et al.s work on PIE using a different context, different scenarios and a different sample. The findings indicate strong support for the validity of Robin et al.s PIE instrument and show PIE to significantly influence ethical judgment (attitude) and behavioral intention. This study also indicates the sex of the individual affects the individuals perception of importance and is a significant influence of ethical judgment and behavioral intention. Future ethical models and studies should include PIE as a possible influence on behavioral intention.Timothy Paul Cronan is Professor of Information Systems and

Crisis management can be simultaneously a content specific problem solving process and an opportunity for stimulating and enabling an organizations ethical tradition. Crisis can be an opportunity for ethical organizational development. Kierkegaardian upbuilding dialog method builds from within the internal ethical tradition of an organization to respond to crises while simultaneously adapting and protecting the organizations tradition. The crisis itself may not be a directly ethical crisis, but the method of responding to the crisis is built upon the ethical foundations of an organizations tradition. A limitation of this method is that it may be less applicable to organizations with questionably ethical traditions. The concept of upbuilding dialog is derived from Kierkegaard, but here is applied to organizational crisis management. The method is illustrated and discussed in the context of a wrongful death crisis of the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, a nonprofit organization, and an economic survival crisis at Ben and Jerrys, a business organization. 相似文献
