This study aims to investigate how, and the extent to which, different interpretation techniques (e.g. visual, verbal and interactive) at a cultural heritage museum affect children's behaviour, associated with their engagement with interpretive materials and their understanding of the content and its key ideas and messages presented as cultural lessons. An exploratory study with classes of primary-school-aged children, adopting a qualitative method including observation and post-visit in-depth interviews, was carried out. The results did not indicate any discernible difference between the types of interpretation technique used, with regard to their interaction with the site, or their understanding of the museum's content. Rather, it is the circumstances under which the interpretation techniques were used by the children. Two main variations in the way that the children interacted with their peers and the interpretation were found to affect the level of understanding of different stories, and female and male children showed generalised preferences for different forms of behaviour. How these behavioural patterns impacted on their understanding of the interpretation and meanings of the displayed objects at the museum is discussed. 相似文献

Although brand management is increasingly important to a museum manager, the existing literature on brand equity within the museum industry is sparse. This study aims to propose a museum brand equity model from the customer's perspective and to examine the mediate roles of brand value. A survey was undertaken of visitors to the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Taiwan, resulting in 367 valid responses. The results of this study provided support for the majority of the hypothesized relationships. Specifically, brand value played a full mediate role in the model. This paper offers a practitioner's viewpoint of the new Riverside Museum in Glasgow and discusses its successful transition to a new building and location. The role of nostalgia in the museum's appeal through storytelling and collective memory is discussed and shown to be an important element in this success. This paper also highlights the museum's efforts to avoid sanitisation of the past in how it presents this history and argues that the use of nostalgia should not be to just present a rose-tinted selective version of what was past, but rather to present as complete and truthful a representation as possible. 相似文献

AbstractWhile museums are widely recognized for their important roles in society, there are concerns about their relevance to young adults, who are claimed to rarely cross museums’ thresholds. This study explores social representations of museums held by 259 young Australian and Chinese adults. The analysis revealed a shared social representation of museums as places for school groups, families, or cultural elites who sought to learn from exhibits of authentic objects. While there were some differences between the perceptions of Chinese and Australian respondents, it was clear that neither group regards museums as places for young adults. Both groups suggested museums would be more appealing if they were more engaging, relevant, welcoming, and offered opportunities for social interaction with peers. Accounting by most New Zealand museums was subject to public sector reforms requiring private sector -style financial reporting, and service performance reporting. This study into the impact of the reforms on how museum managements pursue successful performance found museums adopting a more accounting-oriented approach to planning and evaluation. Service performance reporting has facilitated the periodic evaluation of non-financial targets by managements, but as currently constituted the reporting model is flawed, particularly in its implications for essential long-term resource capacity of museums. This threatens its effectiveness for promoting good performance. Non-accounting based professional practices also have a role in museum success. 相似文献

纪念馆公益化在国外已开展了较长时间,在我国则刚刚开始。长期以来我国纪念馆作为红色旅游的重要景区点.实行有偿参观,并形成了市场机制下的发展模式。然而当它免费向社会公众开放后,市场发生了变化,纪念馆的旅游转型问题凸显。从市场需求入手,以南昌八一起义纪念馆为例,重点探讨了转型中游客的旅游动机及其行为,结果显示:了解历史文化是纪念馆公益化后的基本需求市场、陪孩子游览增强爱国教育是散客的主要市场、作为地标景点游览是潜力需求市场、修学旅游是专项需求市场。根据游览组织形式不同讨论了团体游客和散客的时间行为和空间行为特点。 相似文献
