中国对印度的商品出口现状分析

随着中印经济的高速增长和全球化进程的不断深入,两国在国际市场上的地位迅速提高。在此背景下,两大邻国之间的贸易从理论上来看也应该得到相应的发展和深化。然而,本文通过对1992年以来中国对印度出口数据的分析发现,尽管过去20年中国对印度的出口绝对量增长很快,但是从相对量来看,中印双边贸易强度一直低于其它主要贸易伙伴,近年来甚至有中国对印度出口不断乏力的趋势。文章进一步分析了中国对印度的出口结构和贸易成本并发现,导致对印度出口乏力的主要原因有:出口契合度低、产业内贸易低、贸易成本下降的空间有限等。     

What does the Chinese market need? An empirical study of the determinants of Chinese imports, 1996–2008

This study provides an in-depth analysis of the determinants of import demand in China through a multilevel approach. Using disaggregated data over 1996–2008 and a dynamic panel model, we find that the Chinese import market is predominantly characterized by quality competition. However, the nature of the competition varies across different industries. In line with theory, quality plays an important role in industries that are characterized by the potential for quality improvement and product differentiation, whereas price is key in industries in which quality and product differences are rather small. Moreover, private consumption expenditure is more influential than other categories of expenditures. Additionally, variables that can influence the relative price of import products, such as the exchange rate, tariffs and the domestic price index, also have an impact on import demand.     

Novel naval technologies: Sustaining or disrupting naval doctrine

The defense sector is generally known to be simultaneously conservative and enthusiastic about novel technologies. Uptake of new technologies by the military may differ depending on the perceived impact of new technologies. Introduction of technological changes can sustain or disrupt doctrine and (promoters of) new technologies may be met with less or more resistance respectively. We analyzed dynamics in naval innovation cases to investigate how different types of technological change became associated with either sustaining or disruptive doctrinal innovations. In order to analyze dynamics in the cases, an analytical framework was developed which highlighted a set of factors shaping naval innovation processes.

Nascent ventures competing for start-up capital: Matching reputations and investors

Although nascent ventures have not yet developed a performance-based reputation, the individual reputations of their founders, based on the performance of their earlier ventures, can function as important signals to investors. Selection system theory distinguishes between different types of reputations as well as different types of investors, in order to analyze how particular types of reputations affect the investment behavior of particular types of investors. The empirical setting of this paper is the Dutch film industry, in which we study the impact of different types of reputations of producers and directors on the investment decisions of the three main investors.     

WHAT DETERMINES TRADE BETWEEN CHINA AND INDIA DURING THE RECESSION OF 2008–2012?

Despite the international status of China and India rising dramatically in the previous decades, trade between the two countries did not grow accordingly. This paper investigates the determinants of the bilateral trade performance during the period of 2008–2012 from two perspectives: comparative advantage and trade protection. Two cases, Chinese exports to India, and Indian exports to China, are analyzed by using product‐level data. The results suggest that (1) the law of comparative advantage and trade protection explain the pattern of China–India trade, while (2) in a time of crisis, the adverse forces become prominent which explains the declining trend of the bilateral trade.
