Driver support systems are generally assumed to contribute to public traffic goals. However, much uncertainty exists about their future: technology development, market introduction and impacts on driver and traffic behaviour. An international Delphi study, collecting expert opinions on these issues, is describe this paper. In three rounds opinions were collected from 50 experts from USA, Japan and Europe. The article focuses on market introduction, driver behaviour, general barriers and policy options.  相似文献

We consider the problem of determining the home locations, or domiciles, of truck drivers for a less-than-truckload carrier. Domiciling decisions are complex, in part due to regulations and union rules restricting driver schedules, but have a significant impact on the operating costs of less-than-truckload carriers. We present an iterative scheme, using driver dispatch technology in each iteration, to allocate drivers to terminals and to determine drivers’ bids so as to satisfy union requirements. Computational experiments demonstrate the value of the iterative scheme and quantify the impact of union rules on the number of drivers required (and the resulting operating costs).  相似文献

Despite persistent claims in the motor carrier industry of poorer safety performance of owner–operators, there is little empirical work directly comparing owner–operator safety performance to that of employee drivers. This study assesses the statistical significance of differences in the safety performance between owner–operators and employee drivers. This study also expands on previous driver focused safety models by examining how driver and carrier characteristics affect safety performance. Data for this study were derived from the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS), and the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) databases. Study results provide evidence that owner–operators are associated with more driver- and vehicle-out-of-service violations but experience lower crash rates than do employee drivers.  相似文献

In New Zealand as elsewhere, there is an increasing interest in alleviating congestion on the road transport network to improve economic productivity, reduce pollution, and to use the transport network more effectively. Governments enact various policies to encourage car drivers to change their behaviour, but often find that the full impact is not reached. We propose that car drivers have constraints influencing their mode choice for the morning peak period trip (e.g. needing to transport children, needing a car for work during the day). A stated preference experiment conducted in the three largest New Zealand urban areas not only quantifies the likely impact of a wide range of policy tools (both ‘sticks’ discouraging car use, and ‘carrots’ encouraging alternative modes) for each area, but also identifies many significant constraints.  相似文献

In this study, the Manchester Driver Behaviour Questionnaire (DBQ) was used to examine the self-reported driving behaviours of a group of Tunisian drivers (N = 900) and to collect socio-demographic data, driver behaviours and DBQ items. A sample of Tunisian drivers above 18 years was selected. The aim of the present study was to investigate the factorial structure of the DBQ in Tunisia. The principal component analysis identified three factor solutions: inattention errors, dangerous errors and dangerous violations. Logistic regression analysis showed that dangerous errors, dangerous violations and speeding preference factors predicted crash involvement in Tunisia. Speeding is the most common form of aberrant behaviour reported by drivers in the current sample. It remains one of the major road safety concerns.  相似文献
