Sister Cities Flourish

Building sister city relation, also known as friendship city, is a common channel for cities in different countries to keep a closertie and communication. According to the statistics from China International Friendship Cities Association, up to the end of 2007, 1087 provinces and states and 314 cities from 120 countries in the world have found their sister cities in China. Among them, Japan has the largest amount of Chicapital history.     

China-ASEAN,More Potential to Explore

China-ASEAN bilateral trade maintained rapid growth for many years. Trade volume between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations （ASEAN） hit US$202.6 billion in 2007, up 25.9 percent year-on-year, according to the statistics from the China-ASEAN Business Council.

目前,中国政府统计数据失真问题愈演愈烈,对宏观调控造成一定程度的负面影响,已引起政府和学术界的高度重视。明确了政府统计数据质量的含义;分析了中国政府统计数据质量存在的问题;提出了若干提高中国政府统计数据质量的建议,希望对提高中国政府统计数据质量有所裨益。

统计指数是统计学的重要内容，为更好地掌握和理解统计指数的内容及应用方法，构建一个清晰、完整的统计指数指标体系，具有非常重要的意义。     

Analysis of space–time variability in agriculture and the environment with geostatistics

This paper gives an overview of space–time variability in agriculture and the environment. Analysis is based upon geostatistics in the framework of linear regression theory. Common procedures for spatial data are extended towards the space–time domain. Several practical studies are presented. The first study describes the use of REML to estimate semi-variogram models within the presence of trends. The second study describes the use of probability maps in an environmental statistical study. The third study describes the use of geostatistics in modelling the development of a disease in cabbage. Studies are evaluated using quadratic scoring rules.     

Spatial Statistics and Real Estate

Real estate has historically employed statistical tools designed for independent observations while simultaneously noting the violation of these assumptions in the form of clustering of same sign residuals by neighborhood, along roads, and near facilities such as airports. Spatial statistics takes these dependencies into account to provide more realistic inference (OLS has biased standard errors), better prediction, and more efficient parameter estimation. This article provides an overview of the field and directs readers to the relevant literature and software.

文章论述了建立现代企业制度及其管理为企业统计的生存提供了空间 ,但也提出了更高的要求 ;从目前企业统计满足不了企业管理需要的现状出发 ,阐述了企业统计改革的迫切性 ;提出了企业统计改革和发展的新思路。     

Statistical Thinking in Computer-Based Learning Environments

The theme of technology is particularly important for statistics education because of the role of technology in changing views of statistical knowledge, pedagogy and learning. The interactive multimedia technology of today allows for the creation of powerful learning environments where the focus is on the process that produced the data and its associated variation and the statistical thinking required to solve the problem. However, despite this optimistic view, students' self‐regulation and intrinsic motivation seem to be key concepts for learning in complex interactive computer‐based learning environments. We conclude with observations of teachers and students working with applets. More of these evaluations should be published and/or made available to the statistical community so that both positive and negative teaching experiences can be shared.     

主成分分析方法在区域经济统计分析中的应用

根据主成分分析的原理和方法，利用SPSS社会统计软件分析得出，2003-2007年孝感市经济发展总体势头是良好的，但也存在一些问题。首先，经济总量不大且增长速度缓慢，需要因势利导，大力调整产业结构；其次，投资增长速度不快，需要依托武汉经济圈的优势加大招商引资的力度；最后，工业基础薄弱，发展缓慢，需要制定政策，引进人才，改进技术。     

Exchangeability, Correlation, and Bayes' Effect

We examine the difference between Bayesian and frequentist statistics in making statements about the relationship between observable values. We show how standard models under both paradigms can be based on an assumption of exchangeability and we derive useful covariance and correlation results for values from an exchangeable sequence. We find that such values are never negatively correlated, and are generally positively correlated under the models used in Bayesian statistics. We discuss the significance of this result as well as a phenomenon which often follows from the differing methodologies and practical applications of these paradigms – a phenomenon we call Bayes' effect.
