Sister Cities Flourish

Building sister city relation, also known as friendship city, is a common channel for cities in different countries to keep a closertie and communication. According to the statistics from China International Friendship Cities Association, up to the end of 2007, 1087 provinces and states and 314 cities from 120 countries in the world have found their sister cities in China. Among them, Japan has the largest amount of Chicapital history.

Jean-Charles Shalom Chebat, (1945–2019) z’’l: An intimate perspective into his life

Professor Jean-Charles Chebat's successful career was widely recognized. He was respected by his peers and loved by his students. Numerous awards and recognitions highlighted his career. Hailed for his teaching skills both at home and abroad, an innovator and extremely versatile and prolific author, his work has impacted the academic world in many significant and exceptional ways. He has published more than 160 refereed journal articles, serving on the board of multiple top journals, and is still one of the top-cited researchers in his field. Jean-Charles trained more than one hundred Ph.D. students over the course of his career. Born in 1945 of a Jewish family in the city of Algiers, Jean-Charles was also a loving father, devoted husband and son, who lived by his principles and values. A leader in his Canadian-Jewish community, he was deeply involved with this Jewish concept of tikkum olam, which translated into societal action and research as a means of social change. In 2013, he moved to Israel and continued teaching at the Technion University in Haifa. Jean-Charles Chebat, Professor Emeritus of HEC Montréal, passed away on May 21, 2019 in Israel at the age of 74. This chapter is an intimate perspective into Professor Chebat's life, research, career achievements, the broad span of his research fields, his teaching philosophy, and his legacy.     

Sino-India Friendship Cemented,Trade Expanded

It is a frequent-exchanging period recently, when we embraced the coming of 2008 New Year. From January 13 to 15, China welcomed guests from its giant Asian neighbor. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid a three-day visit to China to boost bilateral relations. China and India, the world＇s two biggest developing countries, reinforced their confidence to further develop ties, vowing to promote their relations to a higher level.     

Effect of hotel employees’ workplace friendship on workplace deviance behaviour: Moderating role of organisational identification

This study aims to explore the effect of friendships at workplaces (including friendship opportunities and friendship prevalence) on the workplace deviance behaviour (including production deviance, political deviance, property deviance, and personal aggression). This study included an examination of organisational identification for moderating relationships. The surveyees were employees and supervisors in five-star hotels in Taiwan who were willing to cooperate with the survey; each supervisor managed ten employees. A purposive sampling method, a non-probability sampling method, was employed. A total of 600 employee questionnaires were distributed, and the number of valid questionnaires was 357. The results reveal the following: (1) the friendship opportunities and friendship prevalence of hotel employees negatively influenced production deviance and (2) friendship prevalence of hotel employees negatively influenced political deviance, property deviance, and personal aggression. Moreover, organisational identification moderates the relationship between hotel employees’ workplace friendship and deviance behaviour. Management implications and follow-up suggestions are proposed based on the study results.     

Friendship,not altruism: an economic theory with cross-cultural applications

Friendship is both ubiquitous and economically important, but neglected in the economic literature. We provide a definition of friendship supported by anthropology research that we believe is plausible, widely accepted, and distinct from altruism. This motivates a game-theoretic model of friendship that provides a characterization of how friendship in a bilateral relationship can explain cooperation in a finite-horizon setting without the aid of altruism or pro-social preferences. We highlight the difference between two key equilibria of our model: opportunistic friendship that is short-lived and driven by material support, and sustained friendship that is long-lived and is distinguished from opportunistic friendship by the provision of support without the expectation of return. Opportunistic friendship seems more likely in environments characterized by economic uncertainty such as in developing countries or immigrant communities. We provide cross-cultural examples of friendship that are consistent with the conditions underpinning opportunistic versus sustained friendship equilibria.     

授权型领导对员工隐性知识分享的影响机制

在环境不确定性和内外部资源约束情境下，知识管理对于企业成长与发展变得愈发重要。从心理授权视角出发，探讨了授权型领导与员工隐性知识分享的关系，并以角色认同与自我归类理论为基础，进一步研究了内部人身份感知与职场友谊在以上关系中的作用。基于276份“主管-员工”配对数据的实证结果表明：授权型领导对员工隐性知识分享具有显著正向预测效果；内部人身份感知在授权型领导与隐性知识分享之间起到部分中介作用；职场友谊正向调节内部人身份感知与隐性知识分享间的关系，即职场友谊水平越高，内部人身份感知对员工隐性知识分享的正向作用越强。

Promoting Friendship on the Road to Development

As Bangladesh celebrated its 37th anniversary of Independence and National Day on March 26, China＇s Foreign Trade interviewed H.E.Mr.Munshi Faiz Ahmad,Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to the People＇s Republic of China.＂Bangladesh and China enjoy traditional friendship for a long time.For example,Xuan Zang （the Chinese Buddhist monk famous for his＂Journey to the West＂during the Tang dynasty） and Admiral Zheng He （the great Chinese navigator from the Ming dynasty） visited Bengal in their respective times.     

Sony Style in China

Since the normalization of the diplomatic ties between China and ） Japan, the bilateral economic relations have deepened continually. According to the statistic of Japan, China passed U.S. to become Japan＇s top trade partner as well as is the second largest export market for Japan and is the largest import resource for Japan. Japan companies such as Mitsui, Sumitomo, Sony and Panasonic, have set the subsidiaries in China and explored their scales. This year 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the ChinaJapan Treaty of Peace and Friendship.
