Doing sustainability: an application of an inter-disciplinary and mixed-method approach to a regional sustainable tourism project

This paper describes and explains an interdisciplinary and mixed-method approach to a large-scale sustainable tourism development project. The research took place in a two-county area straddling the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia, USA. It was commissioned in order to develop a sustainable tourism centerpiece to enhance the region and encourage visitor expenditures while maintaining the environment and quality of life of the community. In response to Hollinshead and Jamal's 2007 call for a more bricoleur and third ear approach to tourism research, a gap analysis of the region's tourism offerings was performed using six interdisciplinary, mixed-method research phases seeking to identify discrepancies between the current region's tourism offerings, visitor preferences and community stakeholders. Phases included a Community Resource Assessment (GIS-based Inventory), Stakeholder Interviews, a Visitor Survey and GPS visitor tracking, the development of seven Potential Scenarios, a Potential Visitor Survey and an Economic Analysis. Subsequently, two potential tourism centerpieces were developed with the goal of showcasing the region's unique mountain and agricultural heritage. In addition to providing a detailed overview of the research project, the paper concludes with discussion of the practical and political challenges, time constraints and rewards that accompany this type of research.

双语教学模式的探索与实践——专业教学人才培养

全球经济的一体化,语言不再是单一的技能,一专多能的复合型外语人才变成了人才需求的主流。在新形势下,拥有外语水平,相对宽广的知识面以及一定深度的专业知识,才能适应全球经济的一体化。双语教学作为教育的社会性体现,在我国各高校迅速展开。该文阐述了双语教学的背景、内涵及现状,探讨了专业教学的必要性以及双语教学中存在的制约因素,并提出了相应的双语教学模式以应对双语教学中一些亟待解决的问题。     

Causality and normal states in economics and other disciplines

In this article, past and recent accounts of causality and the notion of normal state adopted in various disciplines are linked to the philosophical insights of John Stuart Mill and Piero Sraffa in order to provide a particular focus on economic theory. A simple neuron model and the theory of natural price in Adam Smith are taken as typical applications of causality plus normality and serve to argue that the deviations from a normal state can play two roles in economic theory: (1) the selecting of causes and causal explanations and (2) agency represented by the variables of a causal model.

Game-theoretic and Behavioral Negotiation Theory

This article evaluates the state of the art and provides an interdisciplinary framework for game-theoretic and behavioral negotiation theory. The former is based on concepts like extensive form, payoff and information structure, and equilibrium concepts. The latter has a foundation in psychology, organization theory, sociology, and related fields. The objectives of the article are to build upon recent advances in both game-theoretic and behavioral negotiation theory, bring the disciplines closer together, and generate a foundation for future research in interdisciplinary negotiation theory. The article develops two interdisciplinary frameworks for game-theoretic and behavioral negotiation theory. Implications of the frameworks are discussed to illustrate their applicability and superiority over earlier frameworks.     

强化高校素质教育中摄影课程美术特质

本文通过对摄影风格与绘画进行比较,以及摄影艺术的本体性及边缘性的美学理论探讨,来研讨当下摄影课程的教学方向与手段,力图避免高校摄影课程在素质教育中过于空泛,或在专业教学中过于经验,通过对以上几个方面的思考,期望构建一个自由与规范相结合的,凸显人文精神的摄影课堂。     

美国大学跨学科研究组织运作模式的创新——加州格雷·戴维斯州长科学与创新研究院案例分析

大学的创新诉求要求大学开展跨学科研究，促进大学科研竞争力的实现。大学在进行跨学科研究时会选择不同的组织形式，不同的组织形式有着不同的组织运作模式。本文以美国加州格雷·戴维斯州长科学与创新研究院为例，分析了加州格雷·戴维斯州长科学与创新研究院在进行跨学科研究的组织运作模式，发现其运作模式呈现为一个三重螺旋型的运作模式，对该运作模式进行了创新三螺旋解释，并给出了结论与政策建议。
